OGTR01 Ornamental Grass Starter Kit Ornamental Grasses are best started in small wads or "plugs" and later transplanted into larger pots or into the landscape. What is a "plug"? A plug is simply a small wad of seedlings started from seeds in trays that are compact and allow a lot of seedlings to be grown in a small place. A plug can be transplanted into larger pots or in the case of groundcovers, directly into the ground.
To successfully grow ornamental grass plugs, you must have a premium blend of media, good moisture control and the right plant food for young seedlings. We have had so many requests from our gardening customers asking for help with this process that we decided to package everything into a kit so that the average greenhouse enthusiast could successfully grow their own economical ornamental grass plugs.
We offer premium grade nursery trays and the best seed starting medium available.
For a seed starting medium, we use WonderSoil. WonderSoil is fertilizer-rich dehydrated peat which expands when you add water. We include 3 packs of Large WonderSoil Wafers with our kit, 3 are more than enough to fill the seedling tray. Its coir-peat mixture with polymers and nutrients allows it to absorb, store and release water so that you have to water your plants much less often than you would with normal potting soil. This mix includes a nutrient charge that is just right for young seedlings offering a mild plant food with micronutrients missing in most potting mixes.
Our kits contain everything you need except for the seeds to start your own ornamental grass plugs.

Jim’s Water Soluble Seedling Starter Plant Food
This is a critical time in the plant’s life, make sure you get it off to a good start. Helps new seedlings establish vigorous root system and fight off diseases. A 9-45-15 water soluble mix with copper, boron, iron, manganese and zinc that will not burn if over applied. Application Rates For first time watering of soil before seeds emerge, add 1 tablespoon of plant food per gallon of water and thoroughly drench soil. Thereafter, feed weekly with a ½ tablespoon per gallon solution after seeds emerge. JPF109 8 ounce Seedling Starter Plant Food mix furnished in our handy, re-useable widemouth plastic container.
