What is a "plug"? A plug is simply a small seedling started from seeds in trays that are compact and allow a lot of seedlings to be grown in a small place. A plug can be transplanted into larger pots or in the case of groundcovers, directly into the ground.

To successfully grow plugs, you must have a premium blend of media, good moisture control and the right plant food for young seedlings. We have had so many requests from our gardening customers asking for help finding the right trays to use with this process that we decided to package all of the necessary trays into a kit so that the average greenhouse enthusiast could successfully grow their own economical plugs.

We offer premium grade nursery trays in this kit, you will need to supply the seed starting medium.

You can purchase seed starting soil mixes at your local gardening center. For a seed starting medium, we use Wonder Soil Reground ( Wonder Soil Wafers that have been ground into powder form for fastest expansion and easy to use ). Wonder Soil is fertilizer-rich dehydrated peat which expands when you add water. One cup of Wonder Soil Reground mixed with 16 ounces of water will expand to make 32 ounces volume of premium seed starting mix. Its coir-peat mixture with polymers and nutrients allows it to absorb, store and release water so that you have to water your plants much less often than you would with normal potting soil.

While it is great when used for seed sowing, plugs and transplants, it may also be used for growing flowers and vegetables in baskets and containers. It is a truly versatile mix that can be used for growing just about anything.

This mix includes a nutrient charge that is just right for young seedlings offering a mild plant food with micronutrients missing in most potting mixes.

Each tray will produce 72 plugs, notice on the photo to the left, we have removed 4 plugs from the tray.
Each kit will produce 360 plugs. Trays can be used over and over.

5 each ST1020WH Standard 1020 Nursery Trays with Drainage Holes
5 each ST1206 72 Cell Inserts that fits into the ST1020WH Trays
1 each ST1020CV Propagation Dome that fit over the ST1020 Trays to trap in warmth and moisture
1 each ST1020NH Standard 1020 Tray with No Holes, you use this as a "soaker" tray, simply put water in this tray ( usually about a quarter way full ), then place the trays holding the 72 cell inserts in this tray and the insert cells will absorb the water from the bottom, enabling you to water with disturbing the seeds.
