Caltha Seed ( Perennial )

Yellow Marsh Marigold (Caltha palustris) is a cheerful moisture-loving perennial that produces bright golden-yellow, buttercup-like flowers above glossy rounded green leaves in early spring. Native to wetlands, streambanks, pond margins, and damp meadows, this hardy plant is one of the first perennials to bloom as winter gives way to spring. Its brilliant flowers, lush foliage, and love of wet soil make it an excellent choice for water gardens, bog gardens, rain gardens, and naturally moist landscapes.

Garden Uses:

Yellow Marsh Marigold is ideal for pond edges, streambanks, bog gardens, rain gardens, wet meadows, low damp areas, and naturalized woodland margins. It brings welcome early color to moist garden sites where many ordinary perennials struggle. The glossy foliage remains attractive after flowering and combines well with irises, ferns, cardinal flower, swamp milkweed, sedges, rushes, and other moisture-loving plants.

Growing Information:

Sow seeds in moist soil and do not allow them to dry out during germination. Fresh seed often germinates best, and a period of cold moist stratification can improve results. Plants prefer full sun to partial shade and rich, consistently moist to wet soil. They tolerate shallow standing water and are well suited to pond margins or saturated ground. In hot climates, afternoon shade helps keep plants fresh. Once established, Yellow Marsh Marigold is long-lived and requires very little care as long as the soil remains moist. Grows 12-18" tall.
