Clematis Seeds ( Perennial )

Golden Clematis.
LET160 Golden Clematis ( Clematis Tangutica )

Golden Clematis (Clematis tangutica) is a vigorous, long-lived perennial vine admired for its cheerful golden-yellow, lantern-shaped flowers that bloom from midsummer well into autumn. The graceful blossoms are followed by large, silky silver seed heads that remain highly ornamental long after flowering has ended, providing nearly year-round interest. Fast-growing and exceptionally hardy, Golden Clematis quickly transforms fences, trellises, pergolas, arbors, and garden structures into living displays of brilliant color while attracting butterflies, bees, and beneficial pollinators.

Garden Uses:

Golden Clematis is ideal for covering fences, arbors, pergolas, trellises, mailboxes, obelisks, and other vertical structures. It can also be allowed to scramble naturally through shrubs, over retaining walls, or across embankments to create an attractive cascading effect. Its vibrant yellow flowers pair beautifully with blue salvias, purple clematis varieties, climbing roses, honeysuckle, and ornamental grasses.

Growing Information:

Sow seeds outdoors in autumn for natural cold stratification or refrigerate seeds for 6-8 weeks before spring sowing. Germination may be slow and somewhat irregular, often requiring several weeks or even months. Plants thrive in full sun to partial shade with fertile, well-drained soil. Like most clematis, they prefer cool, shaded roots with their upper growth in sunlight. Once established, Golden Clematis is remarkably hardy, drought tolerant, and grows 10-15 feet or more each season. Light pruning in late winter or early spring encourages vigorous new flowering growth.

Seedman Notes:

Golden Clematis remains one of our favorite climbing perennials because it provides multiple seasons of interest with very little maintenance. The cheerful yellow flowers brighten the summer garden, while the silvery seed heads provide exceptional autumn and winter beauty. Its toughness, rapid growth, and outstanding ornamental value make it an excellent choice for gardeners wanting a dependable flowering vine that returns larger and more impressive every year.
