Atomic Red Carrot Seeds

Atomic Red Carrots.
VOS008 Atomic Red

Atomic Red Carrot is one of the most striking and nutritious carrots available, producing brilliant coral-red roots that deepen in color when cooked. This unique variety traces its ancestry to ancient red carrots grown for centuries in Central Asia before orange carrots became common in Europe. Long, smooth roots combine crisp texture with a pleasantly sweet flavor and are especially rich in lycopene—the same powerful antioxidant found in tomatoes. Atomic Red brings exceptional color, nutrition, and history to both the garden and the dinner table.

Flavor Profile

Atomic Red has a sweet, mellow carrot flavor with crisp, juicy flesh and excellent tenderness. The flavor is slightly milder than many traditional orange carrots, making it ideal for fresh eating. Cooking enhances both its sweetness and its brilliant red coloration.

Growing Information

Sow seeds directly outdoors in early spring or late summer for fall harvests. Plant seeds ¼ inch deep in finely prepared soil and thin seedlings to 2–3 inches apart after emergence. Loose, stone-free soil allows the long roots to develop smoothly, while consistent moisture promotes tender, sweet carrots with excellent color.

Harvest & Storage

Harvest when roots reach full size while remaining crisp and tender. Young roots may also be harvested earlier for gourmet baby carrots. Remove leafy tops immediately after harvest to preserve freshness. Atomic Red stores well under refrigeration or in cool, humid root cellar conditions while maintaining excellent quality for several months.
