LET766 Tasty King Hybrid

Tasty King Hybrid Cucumber is an outstanding Japanese-type burpless cucumber prized for its exceptionally sweet flavor, crisp texture, and impressive productivity. This vigorous hybrid produces long, slender, dark green fruits that typically measure 10 to 12 inches in length while remaining remarkably tender and nearly seedless. Developed in Japan for premium eating quality, Tasty King has become a favorite among home gardeners, greenhouse growers, and market gardeners who appreciate its beautiful appearance, excellent disease resistance, and long harvest season. Whether enjoyed fresh from the vine, sliced into salads, or lightly pickled, Tasty King consistently delivers gourmet-quality cucumbers throughout the summer.

Flower Type

Gynoecious. Tasty King Hybrid produces predominantly female flowers, allowing the plants to set a high percentage of fruit and deliver exceptional yields. For maximum production in open gardens, plant a monoecious cucumber nearby at approximately one pollinator plant for every 8 to 10 gynoecious plants. If grown in protected culture where pollination is limited, fruit production may be reduced unless pollination is provided. Many commercial seed packets intended for field production include a small percentage of pollinator seed.

Why Grow This Variety?

Tasty King combines outstanding eating quality with dependable garden performance. The slender fruits remain sweet and tender even as they reach full size, with thin skins that rarely require peeling and a small seed cavity that leaves more crisp, edible flesh. Vigorous vines produce over a long season and show excellent disease resistance, making this an outstanding choice for both home gardens and commercial production. When grown on a sturdy trellis, the hanging fruit develops beautifully straight and is easy to harvest.

Flavor Profile

Tasty King is renowned for its mild, sweet flavor with virtually no bitterness. The flesh is exceptionally crisp, juicy, and refreshing, while the thin skin remains tender even on larger fruit. Its clean, delicate flavor makes it one of the finest cucumbers for fresh eating.
