3546 Elephant Ear Tree ( Leea macrophylla )
A very beautiful, upright, herbaceous shrub or small tree with spectacular, very large leaves to 24 inches across and a thick, fleshy rootstock.
Native to India, Nepal, southwestern China and Southeast Asia, it is occasionally planted as an ornamental and as a unique patio and houseplant. The leaves are edible as a vegetable but of limited palatability. Leea macrophylla has also been investigated for traditional medicinal uses and is used in traditional medicine.
Zone 10 and higher outside, or inside in warm brightly lit areas.
