Sky Blue Lavender
IP332 Blue River ( Lavandula angustifolium )

Blue River Lavender is a beautifully fragrant English lavender variety prized for its rich violet-blue flower spikes, silvery-green foliage, and compact growth habit. This aromatic perennial brings both beauty and fragrance to containers, herb gardens, cottage gardens, and landscape borders while attracting bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators.

Throughout summer, Blue River produces masses of colorful flower spikes that rise above neat mounds of fragrant foliage. The blooms are excellent for fresh bouquets, drying, potpourri, and crafting, while the foliage remains attractive throughout the growing season.

Its compact size and outstanding container performance make Blue River Lavender an excellent choice for patios, decks, balconies, and sunny garden spaces.

Uses
  • Produces fragrant violet-blue flower spikes throughout summer.
  • Excellent for containers, herb gardens, and cottage gardens.
  • Flowers attract bees, butterflies, and pollinators.
  • Ideal for fresh bouquets and dried floral arrangements.
  • Popular for sachets, potpourri, and fragrant crafts.
  • Provides year-round ornamental value with attractive foliage.
Growing in Containers

Blue River Lavender thrives in containers and is particularly well suited for patios and sunny outdoor living spaces. Choose a container at least 12–14 inches wide with excellent drainage.

Use a well-draining potting mix and place the container in a location receiving at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Lavender dislikes wet roots, so allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings.

Regular deadheading and light trimming after flowering help maintain a compact shape and encourage continued blooming.

Germination Instructions
  • Sow seeds on the surface of moist seed-starting mix.
  • Lightly press seeds into the soil without deeply covering them.
  • Cold stratification for 2–4 weeks may improve germination.
  • Maintain temperatures of 65–75°F (18–24°C).
  • Keep soil lightly moist during germination.
  • Seeds typically germinate in 14–28 days.
  • Provide bright light after seedlings emerge.
