TRZ198 Jetbead ( Rhodotypos scandens )

Native to eastern Asia—specifically China, Japan, and Korea—it was introduced to the United States in 1866 as an ornamental plant.
Jetbead is a beautiful and hardy deciduous shrub with a loose, mounding habit. Native to Japan and China, this shrub produces 2" white, four-petaled flowers in late spring, followed by 1/3" hard shiny black seeds that last through winter. Its leaves are doubly serrate and ovate-acute, measuring 3-6cm long and 2-4cm broad with a serrated margin. The plant can grow up to 2-5m tall with opposite leaves and 4-petaled flowers, that are unusual traits for a Rosaceae species. Jetbead is an excellent choice for gardens and landscaping projects as it is easy to maintain and adds ornamental value to any landscape.
Hardiness: Thrives in USDA Zones 4 through 8. Adaptability: It is highly versatile, growing in full sun to dense shade and tolerating various soil types, including clay. It is also known for its resilience in difficult urban environments.
