RTP734 Aunt Ruby's German Green
This heirloom originated in Germany and was brought to the U.S. by the family of Ruby Arnold in Greeneville, Tennessee. Ruby Arnold popularized the variety, and it was introduced to the Seed Savers Exchange in 1993.
It's a large, beefsteak-type tomato that can weigh a pound or more. Fruits are typically described as being about five inches in diameter and four inches deep. When ripe, the fruit remains green, often with a pale yellowish-green tint and a pink blush that extends inside the flesh.
Aunt Ruby's German Green is highly regarded for its delicious, fruity, sweet, and slightly spicy flavor. Some even describe it as a wet, melon-like texture that provides a deep flavor explosion.
Indeterminate. 80 days.
Disease resistance: Aunt Ruby's German Green tomatoes are considered to have intermediate resistance to Late Blight, a common fungal disease. They are also known for being a good choice for cool coastal climates where diseases may not be as prevalent until late in the season. However, like many heirloom varieties, they may not have the same level of disease resistance as modern hybrids.
