One of our favorite flowers to sow around large plants like palm and oak trees in containers as they add color and hold back weeds.
These are also a wonderful selection for parts of your flower beds with poor soil, as they will grow just about anywhere. A compact annual or perennial, these will re-seed easily if given the chance. This variety has been used extensively in floral gardens and has escaped from cultivation to roadsides, fields and waste areas throughout much of the United States.
The vibrant blooms are deep purple and yellow, creating a solid carpet of color for weeks. Prefers partial shade to full sun in rich, well drained soil.
There are so many ways to use the versatile plants, around the base of trees, flower beds, containers, borders.
Keeping the faded blossoms picked will prolong the blooming period.

Johnny Jump Ups are very easy to grow, tolerant of most soil types (including dry soil) and drought resistant. They withstand heat better than most bedding flowers and are perfect for partial shade. Best germination if started in early spring, but if you must start them in hot weather, chill the seeds in the fridge for a couple of weeks before sowing. Sowing depth: 1/16". Blooming Period: March through August.
